5e encounters
Encounters are part of the optional D&D 5e engine. They appear only for
campaigns whose engine is set to dnd5e.
When encounters appear
The core product does not show encounter tools for every campaign. A Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Blades in the Dark, Mothership, or homebrew campaign keeps the system-agnostic binder: notes, maps, sessions, characters, items, party records, questlines, and visibility.
In a 5e campaign, premium access unlocks full encounter actions.
What encounter prep is for
Use encounters when a 5e session needs mechanics-aware structure:
- NPC and monster stat blocks.
- Encounter participants.
- Quick reference for attacks, checks, and conditions.
- A run-mode surface for resolving 5e-specific moments.
Premium behavior
Full encounter actions require campaign lifetime premium, an active Premium user owner subscription, or the 7-day subscription grace period. If premium access pauses, existing engine data remains visible read-only so campaign history is not lost.
When not to use encounters
Do not enable the 5e engine just to organize story information. Use sessions, notes, NPCs, locations, maps, items, and questlines when the table needs a calm campaign reference instead of rules-aware combat support.
